Silent way is a farm 550 meters above sea level in the Macedon Ranges, Victoria. Purchased in 2007 by Matt Harrop and Tamara Grischy with their three children, Jai, Ivy and Sofia. Love and friendship nurtured this plot into a home. The wines produced are in small quantities, express the soils they are grown in and are styles we love to drink.
Why the name Silent Way? One of our favourite albums; In a Silent way was recorded by Miles Davis in February 1969. It is regarded as a masterpiece and one of the most inventive recordings of all time.
MATT HARROP
He was born 5th April 1970, Auckland New Zealand, weighing 3.2kg.
He graduated with a Wine Science degree in 1991 from Roseworthy College, Adelaide University.
He has worked at Rothbury, Grosset, Brokenwood, Nautilus and Shadowfax. Matt is currently winemaker at Fowles, Strathbogie Ranges, Victoria.
He reads Uncut music mag, the weekend papers, and musician biographies.
His wine of choice is anything authentic and not too oaky
He loves to listen to community radio, specifically Three Triple R and PBS.
TAMARA GRISCHY
She was born on the 25th of may, 1971, in Far North Queensland
She has a diploma in wine marketing, from Roseworthy College, Adelaide University. She then studied a Bachelor of Business at UTS. During her second pregnancy she then studied her MBA at Swinburne University.
Tamara has worked for Langtons for over 20 years, and is now the General Manager of Langtons.
She grew up in a restaurant that her parents, Ruth and Paul Grischy ran in Port Douglas, this inspired her love for wine.
Her wine of choice is medium weighted, elegant, well balanced and interesting.
She loves her two dogs Fergie and Beat dearly.
THE FAMILY
Tamara and Matt were married in 1997, welcoming their first son, Jai, in 2000, followed by their daughter Ivy in 2002. In 2006, their family was complete with the arrival of their youngest, Sofia.
Family is at the heart of Silent Way and has always played an important role in the way the business is run. We are a family built around shared experiences, a love of the land, and a deep appreciation for the things that bring people together.
Music has always been one of those things. Within the Grischy-Harrop family, it has been a constant thread. It is a way of sharing memories, connecting with one another, and celebrating the people that matter most.
